Landscape Lighting: Learn how you can brighten up your gardens and walkways while enhancing the security of your home with low voltage landscape lighting. Handi-Women instructor Dave Decker will walk you through the process step by step in this fun and interactive class. Low voltage lighting is safer, and more energy efficient than conventional lighting, and you can change or add more lights anytime you like. Back to Basics: Learn how to choose and use the proper tools and materials for every job. In this class we cover the basics of home repair tools, and materials. Learn types and uses of common household tools and how to put together a toolbox / home repair kit. Choose the right glues, screws etc. and learn how and when to use them. Know when to call an expert.
How to Pick and Hire a Contractor: Learn how to choose and manage contractors for projects around your home. Take the mystery out of finding the right contractor for the job and make sure you get what you pay for from your contractor. In this class we demystify checking contractors references checking the contractors licenses and certifications, checking your township requirements, getting the proper permits, getting the best priceand what to do if you have a problem.
Home Energy Savings: Learn how you can help protect the environment while keeping more green in your pocket. Low and no cost options for saving energy in the home are discussed in this enlightening class. Learn how to adjust your water heater for maximum efficiency, install a programmable thermostat, insulate pipes and more.
Stud Night: Hang objects on drywall using a cordless drill, level and stud finder. Knock holes in the wall and fix them yourself in class.
Potty Talk: Learn to troubleshoot and repair common problems with toilets, drains and garbage disposals. Save time and money, by doing it yourself.
Caulk and Grout: Re-grout ceramic tile and apply caulking. Determine where to use sanded and non-sanded grout. Learn which caulk to use in different applications.
Turn Down the Lights: Learn how to replace a light switch safely. Take the mystery out of installing a dimmer switch.
Basic Woodworking: Learn to use power tools, including a router and a compound miter saw, safely! Practice under the supervision of an experienced instructor. Unlock the secrets of cutting and installing crown molding. Learn proper techniques and materials for sanding, gluing nailing and screwing.
Laminate flooring: Learn basic installation of most types of laminate flooring. Discover different types and styles of laminate flooring. Discuss the relative advantages of laminate over other options. Learn how to layout, cut, install and trim out your new floor.
Safe at Home: Change door knobs and locks and replace window screening in class. Learn to repair loose hinges.
